Even as business in Russia gets more and more politicized and assumes basic features of a planned economy, some international companies get lucrative contracts if they manage to get to the right place in the right time. This is what happened to Germany’s Bauer Kompressoren, which landed in the middle of a colossal government-sponsored program of developing a market for gas-driven vehicles.

A tenderless choice

A unit of Gazprom will form a joint venture with a Munich-based family business, Bauer Kompressoren, before the year is over. Gazprom Chairman Alexey Miller signed the order to establish the JV on the base of OOO REP Holding in St. Petersburg in March. The Russian partner is OOO Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo (GP GMT).
